In New Zealand, protecting individuals from noise-induced hearing loss is a critical aspect of workplace safety. Employers are required to assess noise levels and implement control measures to ensure that workers are not exposed to noise exceeding an average of 85 decibels (dB) over an eight-hour period or a peak noise level of 140 dB. When exposure exceeds these limits, employers must provide appropriate hearing protection devices (HPDs), such as earplugs or earmuffs, that comply with the AS/NZS 1270:2002 standard, ensuring adequate noise reduction.
